Writing for brass quickly became a passion of mine when I began working on my first brass quintet. When the opportunity arose to compose a piece for eight horns, I was initially skeptical. However, I soon recognized the immense potential this ensemble offers. The French horn has always been one of my favorite instruments in the orchestra, but in most symphonic settings, compromises must be made that can detract from its full potential.
The focus of this piece is contrast. With just two melodic ideas, the composition continuously shifts gears from fast to slow, loud to quiet, and expansive to intimate. Ensuring each shift is properly interpreted presents the greatest challenge of the piece. I extend my gratitude to Förderverein für Kunst, Medien und Wissenschaft Karlsruhe, and all its members for their unwavering support in making the creation of this piece possible.
This composition is dedicated to Trompa Brasilis of Will Sanders at Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe, constisting of Tiago Carneiro, Dayanderson Dantas, Daniel Filho, Mateus Lisboa de Freitas, Jônatas Nascimento, Johann Pereira, Lucca Soares Zambonini and Felipe Santos Freitas da Silva
